No New Funding for ICE
This weekend, ICE agents shot and killed another American citizen. Alex Pretti was an ICU nurse who was trying to protect a woman assaulted by ICE agents on the streets of Minneapolis. He was exercising both his First and Second Amendment rights, and – based on evidence that we all have seen – was doing so peacefully and lawfully before he was killed.
Pretti’s death appears to have resulted from the Trump administration’s use of excessive force by ICE agents. In response, the Attorney General offered to “bring back law and order to Minneapolis” if the state took a series of actions, including providing the Department of Justice with access to its voter rolls.
It’s clear the Trump administration is using a militarized and aggressive ICE to go after “the enemy within,” which appears to be immigrants and anyone who opposes Trump’s agenda. The Senate will soon vote on funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which includes additional funding for ICE. We oppose this additional funding, barring any safeguards on ICE’s actions and investigations.
Tell your senators: Oppose ICE funding if no safeguards and investigations.
Those responsible for these killings must be held accountable. That’s why we are calling to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, who responded to these shootings with a narrative that appeared to directly contradict what we’ve seen with our own eyes, and has refused to conduct an open investigation.
We’re happy to report that today wasn’t all bad news, and we’re incredibly relieved to report that, finally, after 843 days too many, each and every hostage has been returned to Israel. Today, the IDF located and brought home the sole remaining hostage, Ran Gvili (z”l). After more than two years, our thoughts and prayers are with Ran’s family, who can now lay him to rest with the respect and dignity he deserves. We stand with Israelis and are incredibly relieved that the promise of #BringThemHome has finally been fulfilled.
Thank you for being a part of our movement.
In solidarity,
